AVA GARFINKEL
For our final project for the MADE winter studio, we were asked to do a product teardown looking at an object from two different lenses. Inspired by "Things Come Apart" by Todd McLellan, our goal was to compile the information we learned through our research into two graphical posters conveying the information. While the first poster had to depict the product from a manufacturing lens, the second poster could depict a lens of our choosing. The posters were designed to be printed at size of 24x36 and were expected to be used in an exhibition.
PRODUCT
I chose to do a teardown of the game Catan, a classic resource board game that gained massive popularity after its release in 1995. To tell the story of this product, I chose to look at it from a manufacturing lens and a game mechanics lens. While the construction of the product isn’t incredibly complex, I wanted to learn as much as I could about it since I am interested in creating my own board games in the future. For looking at the game mechanisms, I used the book "Art of Game Design" by Jesse Schell as a basis for the analysis. The end result is two cohesive posters that display a lot of information while still being graphically appealing to look at.
